Herbs around us

People usually do not pay attention to the nature surrounding us. Even if they notice a beautiful flower bed in a garden, they ignore the “natural treasures” that they go past strolling about the meadow or forest.
Usually the people’s knowledge concerning the world surrounding us is scarce. However, it would be interesting to look around and see how many useful plants surround us. They are beautiful, healthy, they have an unique fragrance and can be used not only for medical purposes.
Plantago Major grows actually everywhere. In the past it was used as a remedy for snakebites. Today people use it for healing wounds, especially festering ones and ulcers.Herbs around us
Lime is a tree which is famous for several reasons: its fragrance while blossoming is wonderful, it is one of the main sources for bees to make honey and is used for medical purposes. Dry lime’s leaves make tasty tea that is drunk during colds (example herbal preparation for cold and cough) as it induces perspiration and is a febrifuge. Due to its diuretic properties, the tea is also drunk by people that have problems with kidneys.

Everyone knows German Chamomile. It grows on meadows but in can be also met neat our homes as well. We can prepare a tea for stomach ache or sleeplessness using it. Such tea has to be prepared from dried flowers of the plant (two teaspoon of dried flower per cup of tea). In addition to that, German Chamomile is used for cosmetic purposes. Creams and oils can alleviate the unpleasant symptoms in skin inflammatory diseases.

There are many other herbal medicines that grow around us. That is why we should broaden our knowledge about them. We can prepare effective medicines using their dried leaves or petals on our own instead of buying expensive products in the chemist’s. However, one should bear in mind that herbs cannot be the only remedy when one suffers from a serious disease. In such cases medical consultation is necessary.

Lovage is a plant that is often cultivated, but it can be met as a wild plant as well. It is used as a spice (e.g in a soup stock) and for medical purposes. It is used, like lime, by those who have problems with kidneys.
